Well, free may be a slight exaggeration.
I use Time Warner Cable’s RoadRunner for my high-speed internet connection at home. I have twice experimented with the idea of switching to AT&T’s DSL to see if it is faster or more reliable. Each time I ended up sticking with RoadRunner, not because it is so vastly superior to DSL but because it just doesn’t seem to make much of a difference.
Well, I just signed up to switch back to DSL for the 3rd time, because AT&T has finally given me a reason to prefer it to RoadRunner: earlier this year Starbucks ditched T-Mobile in favor of AT&T to provide internet access at its twenty gajillion stores. Now, home users of AT&T DSL can also surf at Starbucks for free.
I have a (perhaps irrational) hatred of paying for internet access outside of my home — I mean, sheesh, do I have to pay Starbucks to keep the lights and air conditioning running? In any event, coupled with my Starbucks Duetto credit card — the absolute best credit card reward program ever invented — I expect to be spending more time in my local Starbucks. If that is possible…
