Easy File Transfer for Outlook Users

by Erik on June 10, 2008

Yousendit, an online file transfer utility, has produced a free plug-in for Outlook to allow for file transfer integration right out of Outlook.

Why should you care? Many law firm email programs have a fairly low maximum attachment size for email attachments. If users try to send or receive email attachments larger than the maximum allowed file size, the email and attachment will be blocked from transmitting.

As law firms and clients increasingly rely on email to transfer documents and other digital information, more and more users are bumping up against the maximum attachment size. This is where Yousendit comes in.  Yousendit allows users to upload the file and send a message to the intended recipient who can then download it at her leisure.

Sound complicated?  It’s not.  The Outlook plug-in allows you to access Yousendit without ever leaving Outlook.  It sits right in a toolbar, easily accessed and configured.  The recipient of a file sent via Yousendit receives an email with a link allowing the file to be downloaded — avoiding the attachment size problem on both ends of the transfer.

The plug-in has been offered in beta testing for a while, but has recently removed the “beta” label, indicating it is ready for prime time.  Check it out.
